A 2-0 victory over Pickering town sees Golcar return to winning ways following a poor run of form in the league post-Christmas- Can the Village carry their momentum into Saturday's 3 pm clash, away at Eccleshill?
The relegation-evading home side have similarly been under a rough patch of form, winning just 1 for their last 9 games, currently sitting in 17th position in the NCELP level 18th place Frickley athletic. In their last home game, the Eagles were pipped to victory by a late Albion winner in a 7-goal frenzy. They will be looking to carry their scoring form from Wednesday's affair at the Skye Direct Stadium to Saturday's 3 pm kickoff.
Eccleshill United as a club has evidence of a youth team dating back to pre-1910, with players only under the age of 20 qualifying to play. Disbanding for the second world war, the club didn’t reform until 1948 playing in the Bradford Red Triangle League. The senior side joined the West Riding County Amateur League, ascending to the premier division in 1972 further applying and successfully joining the North East Counties League.
The Eagles have seen their fair share of ups and downs in the NCEL, and in 2008 the first team were relegated to the first division, narrowly avoiding finishing in the bottom two and being forced to leave the league the season after. Eccleshill's most successful season 2013/14 saw them narrowly missing out on promotion, winning the West Riding County Cup final and losing on penalties in the NCEL League Cup final.
When Golcar hosted the now home side, Keegan Hartley scored the only goal of the game late on, sending travelling eagles home feeling there were points to be taken.
Golcar will be hoping to follow a similar fashion and pick up another three points, this time on the road, and close the gap to the top of the league.
Up the Village!
